Sweet, woody and slightly boozy — dark berry fruit over warm praline, with a dry cedar and vetiver base keeping it grown-up. "Too Damn Good is the bottle that best explains why people become loyal to this house. It opens sharp and fruity — blackcurrant with bergamot and lemon behind it — and for the first ten minutes you would be forgiven for expecting something simple. Then the praline arrives, and the whole thing changes register.

That praline is handled with real restraint. It is nutty and warm rather than dessert-sweet, and the violet cutting through it keeps the sweetness powdery instead of cloying — a genuinely elegant piece of construction at this price. Underneath, black amber, cedarwood and vetiver do the heavy lifting: dry, resinous and slightly smoky, they stop the fragrance ever tipping into confectionery.

Bottled as an Extrait de Parfum, the concentration is obvious. It projects properly for the first two hours and stays close and warm for the rest of the day, and it will still be on your scarf tomorrow. This is a cold-weather fragrance and an evening fragrance, and it is very hard to wear it without being asked what it is."

Bujairami

Bujairami is an Australian fragrance house, founded in 2020 and composed throughout by its namesake perfumer, Adam Bujairami. The premise is unfashionably simple: build fragrances that hold their own beside the great niche houses, then price them so that wearing one daily is not an act of extravagance. Almost the entire catalogue is bottled at Extrait de Parfum or high-concentration Eau de Parfum strength, which is where the performance comes from — more perfume oil in the bottle, slower evaporation on skin, and a trail that is still present at the end of the evening. It is a house built for people who buy fragrance to wear it, not to admire it on a shelf.

The fruity-woody-amber accord that Too Damn Good works in has become one of the most sought-after in modern perfumery, largely on the strength of Byredo's Bal d'Afrique — the reference point for blackcurrant and violet over a dry woody base. Bujairami's take keeps that skeleton and adds a praline heart, which pushes it warmer and sweeter than the original and makes it substantially better suited to British autumn and winter.

Bottled at Extrait strength rather than Eau de Parfum, it also outlasts most of the fragrances it will be compared to. If you have wanted this style of scent but not the four-figure-per-litre price, this is the most direct route to it.
