"Hectic is the most quietly useful bottle in the Bujairami range, and the one most likely to become a signature. The opening is a proper citrus accord — citron, Calabrian bergamot and Sicilian orange — bright and slightly bitter rather than sweet, so it reads as expensive within seconds rather than sugary. What lifts it out of the crowded fresh-citrus category is the heart: Nigerian ginger and Ceylon cinnamon give it genuine warmth and a faint prickle, with Tunisian neroli smoothing the join.

The drydown is where the money is. Chinese black tea is a difficult note to do well — done badly it smells like a damp teabag — but here it sits over guaiac wood and olibanum and reads as dry, smoky and adult. Ambroxan anchors the whole thing and is the reason it lasts.

Crucially, this is bottled as an Extrait de Parfum rather than an eau de toilette, which is exactly the problem it solves. Fragrances in this bright, tea-and-ginger style are notorious for smelling wonderful for forty minutes and then vanishing. Hectic survives a hot commute, a full day at a desk and dinner afterwards without needing a top-up. It is the safest blind buy in the range."

If you know Louis Vuitton's Imagination, this is the same idea — a sparkling bergamot-and-ginger opening drying down into black tea and ambroxan — bottled at Extrait strength so it actually lasts the day.
